<div class="col-md-offset-4 col-md-8"><h2>Minnesota State Patrol</h2></div> <div class="greeting"><br /></div> <div><center class="greeting"><b>Experienced Traffic Safety Officer State Trooper Application</center><br /></div></b> <div class="greeting">The Experienced Traffic Safety Officer (ETSO) Program is a lateral opportunity for current peace officers with a minimum of two years of sworn full-time employment as a peace officer. The applicants will be able to choose their preferred station, with up to ten choices. Please review the available stations below. Trooper trainees will attend a shortened ten week Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Training Academy at Camp Ripley. </div> <br /> <div class="greeting"> Applicant must: <ol> <li>Not have been convicted of a felony in Minnesota or in any other state or federal jurisdiction which would have been a felony if committed in Minnesota.</li> <li>Not have been convicted of theft or any other crime listed in Minnesota Rule 6700.0700.</li> <li>Be 21 years of age by April 19, 2023.</li> <li>Be a citizen of the United States by November 28, 2023.</li> <li>Possess a valid driver's license or be eligible to obtain one by October 18 & 19, 2023 (PT test date).</li> <li>Two or more years of full-time employment as peace officer at the close of application (October 13, 2023).</li> <li>Have significant traffic safety enforcement experience i.e. DWI, Traffic Stops, Crash Investigations, etc.</li> <li>The following must be met by February 9, 2024 <ul> <li>Possess a valid Minnesota peace officer's license; OR</li> <li>Complete basic police training and be certified as a full-time peace officer in a state or with a federal law enforcement agency which has reciprocity with Minnesota and pass the <a target="_blank" href="https://mn.gov/post/applicants/generalinformation/#3">POST reciprocity examination</a>; OR</li> <li>Meet the <a target="_blank" href="https://mn.gov/post/applicants/generalinformation/#3">military reciprocity requirements</a> for POST standards and pass the POST reciprocity examination. Can I still apply to ETSO?</li> <ul> <li>No, However you can still apply to the traditional academy.</li></ul> <li>How many traffic stops, DWI arrests and/or crashes investigated must I have in order to be considered for ETSO?</li><ul> <li>There is no set number. An <a target="_blank" href="https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/msp/join-the-state-patrol/trooper-careers/Documents/Traffic%20Safety%20Addendum.pdf">addendum</a> will need to be filled out for the required information and a final determination will be made by senior leadership.</li></ul> <li>I am a part-time officer for two different agencies, but put in 40 hours between the two. Can I still apply to ETSO?</li><ul> <li>No, however you can still apply to the Traditional academy.</li></ul> <li>Is the ten week academy still a residential modified stress academy?</li><ul> <li>Yes</li></ul> <li>Do I have to be EMR certified, even though the POST Board does not require it?</li><ul> <li>Yes.
