Introduction:   The Minnesota State Fire Code Academy I class is a five-day course designed for the individual who is new to fire inspections and has had little formal training. This course provides students with an in depth training on the Minnesota State Fire Code, various NFPA standards, fire safety hazards, and fire protection systems. State fire code experts will provide instruction along with outside research projects and hands-on activities and demonstrations. Students must attend all days and all sessions and outside research projects and activities should be expected. Purpose:   The purpose of this course is to provide a basic level of training for entry-level fire code officials following standards found in NFPA 1031 (Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner). Participants of this course should meet the MN State Fire Code definition for Fire Code Official for their jurisdiction. 2020 MSFC Fire Code Official Definition: The state fire marshal, the state fire marshal’s authorized representative, fire chief, fire department representatives authorized by the fire chief, or other authority specifically designated by ordinance or regulation that is charged with the administration and enforcement of the code.
